How the budget is worked out

The calculator works backwards. Enquiries needed is the jobs you want divided by your close rate. Clicks needed is those enquiries divided by the share of visitors who enquire. The budget is the clicks multiplied by your cost per click.

Change one input at a time and the lesson is usually the same: a better landing page and faster answering of calls lower the budget more than any bidding trick. A page that lifts enquiries from 5 to 10 in every 100 visitors halves the cost of every job.

We publish two client results, both read from inside the client’s own admin with their permission. Both are online stores. The method is the one we run for service businesses: track every enquiry to the booked job first, fix the page that converts, then put the budget behind what works.

Questions about Google Ads budgets

How much should a small business spend on Google Ads?

Work backwards from the jobs you want. The number of jobs, your close rate, your website's conversion rate and the cost per click in your trade and area set the budget. The calculator does that sum; your own Google Ads account or Keyword Planner gives the cost per click.

What is a good cost per lead on Google Ads?

One that leaves room for profit after the job is done. If you close one enquiry in three and a job is worth A$1,500, a cost per enquiry well under A$500 is profitable. Judge cost per lead against your job value and close rate, not against another business's numbers.

Why does the same budget produce more jobs for some businesses?

Conversion rate and close rate. A landing page that turns 10 clicks in 100 into enquiries needs half the budget of one that turns 5, and a business that answers every call within minutes closes more of them. Both usually improve faster than the cost per click can be pushed down.

Where do I find my real cost per click?

In your Google Ads account under Campaigns, or in Keyword Planner for a new account. Use the average for the searches that actually bring enquiries, not the cheapest keyword in the list.
