Amazon listing optimisation, field-tested.
Amazon rank follows conversion. Optimise the listing to convert and the algorithm rewards you, here's each element, in the order that matters.
On Amazon, conversion drives rank more directly than anywhere else in digital. A listing that converts better gets shown more, which produces more sales, which improves rank further. Every element below exists to serve that loop.
Images do the heaviest lifting
Most shoppers decide from the image carousel before reading a word. You need: a clean main image on white that meets Amazon's requirements, lifestyle shots showing use and scale, infographics carrying key benefits, a size or dimension graphic, and ideally video. Weak imagery caps conversion no matter how good the copy is.
Title: readable, not stuffed
Include the brand, the core keyword, and the primary differentiators, size, quantity, material, colour. Keyword-stuffed titles that read like machine output suppress conversion, which suppresses rank. Write for the human; the algorithm follows their behaviour.
Bullets: objections, not features
Five bullets, each answering a real buying objection. Lead each with a short benefit statement in caps, then a plain-English sentence. "Will it fit?", "How long does it last?", "Is it safe for X?", the questions your reviews and returns keep raising.
Backend keywords
Search terms that don't belong in visible copy: synonyms, common misspellings, alternate phrasings. Don't repeat words already in your title, Amazon indexes them once. Don't include competitor brands; it violates policy.
A+ Content
Available through Brand Registry, and consistently associated with better conversion. Use it for comparison charts against your own range, brand story, and the detail that doesn't fit in bullets. Remember it isn't indexed for search, it's a conversion asset, not a keyword one.
Reviews and rating
The most powerful conversion lever on the platform and the hardest to shortcut. Use Amazon's compliant request tools, deliver a product worth reviewing, and never buy reviews, the enforcement risk is existential, not theoretical.
The iteration loop
Optimisation isn't a one-off. Check your conversion rate against category benchmarks, review search-term reports monthly for terms you should be targeting, and test changes one at a time so you can attribute the result.

Questions owners ask
How often should listings be updated?
Review monthly against search-term data and quarterly for a fuller refresh. Amazon is competitive enough that static listings get out-optimised.
Does A+ Content help SEO?
Not directly. It isn't indexed for search. It helps conversion, and conversion drives rank, so the effect is real but indirect.
How do I get more reviews compliantly?
Amazon's own request-a-review tools, product inserts that ask for feedback without incentivising positivity, and a product that earns them. Never purchase reviews.
